New Monitor Causes DRM Problem with Netflix

Some of our positions, like our recent Unlocked Media Release sometimes give people the feeling that we're not concerned with piracy. The fact is we're strongly anti-piracy, we just know that DRM inevitably causes a great deal of consumer difficulty and hasn't shown itself to be effective in stopping piracy. For evidence, check out the recent slashdot story about a monitor upgrade that caused the potential loss of a bunch of amazon unboxed purchases. Certainly this is an extreme example, but it's an example of the consequences that naturally result from the endless tail chasing efforts of DRM.

As some of you know, we're introducing some new community and sharing features on the Neuros OSD . We naturally want to do everything we can to help prevent piracy, but sadly so many of the potential solutions, like DRM, are not much more than proprietary red herrings that will do nothing but alienate users. We believe the best anti-piracy measures are open honest communication, not proprietary technical restrictions. Help support this cause by never associating being anti-DRM with being pro-piracy, and remember, unlocked media is about consumer choice and flexibility, and freedom.
