is there any way to upload an mp3 collection sorted by directory to a neuros then download it to a pc and have the directory tree still in tact?

Here's how I'd do it:

i know you cant sort through mp3s on the neuros itself with directories, just id3 tag right?

i just want to be able to take all my mp3s off my HD and free up some space, and have an mp3 player at the same time

i got an iPod, but you can do this with it

Copy over the MP3s manually, then go into your sync program and hit 'rebuild database'.

Neurosen act just like USB Mass Storage devices. Only difference is there's a database which keeps track of all .mp3s, .oggs, and .wavs on it.

Ipods don't work that way.

The sync software deliberately obfusticates the process of copying files, so that it's one more "barrier" against "file sharing".

i think the support for the Neuros seems to be much better anyway

thats the one thing that is kind of diverting me from buying one right now, seems like a read about a ton of somewhat critical firmware problems on the forums

That's very rare, and it's fixed in the beta firmware

yeah, sorune keeps the directory structure automatically and NDBM can be configured to do it too, or you could just use it as a hard drive

i think i have mine genre -> artist -> album -> file

with sorune you just have to put in where the directory starts (ie. like documents and settings, so it doesnt have a folder named documents and settings on the neuros)
