[00:02] <SmrtJustin> anyone know the command to check your user's uid right off?
[00:06] <SmrtJustin> nvm, its id
[00:07] <SmrtJustin> I wish sorune would get on
[00:44] <nerochiaro> I MADE IT ! I fucking made it ! finally bent the damn menu system to do my bidding
[00:44] <Yono> ?
[00:45] <nerochiaro> now i can finally try and implement a file browser
[00:45] <nerochiaro> nevermind that NA has already done it
[00:45] <Yono> oh, thats great! congrats
[00:45] <Yono> yours would probably be easier to edit anyway
[00:46] <nerochiaro> we'll see
[00:46] <nerochiaro> i think that tonight and yesterday night were my most productive nights ever, neuros-wise
[00:47] <nerochiaro> let's hope the trend continues
[00:48] <nerochiaro> speaking of more mundane matters ;) what's the best way to check the health of my neuros hdd ?
[00:48] <nollidj> stethoscope
[00:48] <nerochiaro> it's taking a long long time to mount on startup. i'm worried
[00:48] <nerochiaro> nollidj: xrays even
[00:48] <nollidj> it's taking a long time when you start up the unit itself, or it's taking a long time to mount on your computer when you start things up?
[00:49] <nerochiaro> no, the unit itself.
[00:49] <nerochiaro> once that's done, it's fast as normal.
[00:49] <nollidj> i would venture that, as it fills up and the database expands, it might take longer to start up. mine seems to behave that way
[00:50] <nollidj> someone with more experience with the unit should be able to confirm/deny that. a quick experiment could be to clear out the database and then see how long it takes to start
[00:50] <nerochiaro> i don't think it's the db, because when i start it in DOWN+PLAY mode there's even a text that says "mounting drive" and that stays there for 15-20 seconds, even more at times
[00:50] <nerochiaro> but your suggestion it's worth a shot anyway
[00:52] <nollidj> oh, hmn. maybe try a scandisk from windows or a fsck.vfat ?
[00:52] <nerochiaro> is that safe to do ?
[00:53] <nollidj> it should be
[00:53] <nollidj> if you want to play extra-safe just do a check and don't let the tool write changes. that is probably what i would do with fsck.vfat, given the state of fat32 tools in linux
[00:54] <nerochiaro> i'm on xp, so i don' t have that problem, at least
[00:54] <nollidj> ah, for the days when there was only chkdsk
[00:55] <nerochiaro> :)
[00:55] <nerochiaro> i tried erasing the db. no luck
[00:55] <nerochiaro> now it's scandisk time
[00:57] <nerochiaro> scandisk reported no error. no surface scan, of course. i'll do that while i sleep
[00:58] <nollidj> that's good, though
[00:59] <nerochiaro> well, yes. but i'm worried it's an hardware problem, now
[00:59] <Yono> nerochiaro: bugzilla.neurosaudio.com
[00:59] <Yono> makes you wish you had it now, doesn't it?
[01:00] <nerochiaro> never had luck with SMART
[01:01] <nerochiaro> it always notified me *after* the damage was done, or it didn't notify me at all
[01:01] <nerochiaro> i'm talking about all the dead hard disks i had in my PCs over the years
[01:01] <nerochiaro> many had SMART, never worked
[01:36] <nerochiaro> GarBage: if you come back and you see my question about the code in the logs, please leave me an answer if you can. thank you.
[01:36] <nerochiaro> i'm off to bed, this time for real
[01:36] <nerochiaro> bye
[01:48] <gernika> ok
[01:48] <gernika> anyone want to test the rss feed?
[01:49] <Yono> sure
[01:49] <gernika> ok, there is a link on the channel page: www.loglibrary.com
[01:51] <Yono> woah
[01:51] <Yono> strange set up
[01:51] <gernika> in what way?
[01:52] <Yono> well, each "piece of news" is a typed line
[01:52] <gernika> right.
[01:52] <gernika> what were you expecting?
[01:52] <Yono> I have no idea
[01:52] <gernika> oh, ok :)
[01:52] <Yono> interesting
[01:53] <Yono> but it only has 30 lines :(
[01:53] <Yono> thats ok
[01:53] <Yono> good job
[01:53] <gernika> If you click on it it will go to the page... of course.
[01:53] <gernika> anyway, thanks for testing.
[01:54] <Yono> no problem
[01:54] <Yono> it works in firefox ;)
[01:55] <GarBage> nero: sorry, i was watching TV. i haven't looked into it, but remind me about it when you get back, let's see if we can figure it out together
[02:08] <GarBage> gernika: want feedback? make it so that the default RSS outputs the latest 100-200 lines or so, GMT tagged, all on the same item
[02:40] * chreekat  waves
[02:41] <gernika> Garbage -- I think thats good advice.
[03:18] <Yono> gernika: keep us posted
