[00:00] <Starkey-treo> pasta is some boring food
[00:01] <Starkey-treo> just wanted to mention that
[00:02] <chreekat> duly noted
[00:02] <noiz77> i think it depends on what kind of pasta
[00:02] <Starkey-treo> yeah, it needs meat on it
[00:03] <Starkey-treo> or in it
[00:03] <Starkey-treo> that's the carnivore in me talking
[00:03] <noiz77> meat is good
[00:04] <noiz77> i cant understand why anyone would want to be a vegiterian...
[00:04] <Starkey-treo> and they can't understand why you eat meat
[00:05] <Starkey-treo> its what makes life exciting
[00:05] <noiz77> i saw a tabliod headline a while ago that said "Man eating hamburger created by PETA!"
[00:06] <Starkey-treo> sounds like an Onion story
[00:07] <noiz77> yeah, the Onion is great
[00:07] <noiz77> i even have a desk calender from them
[00:07] <Starkey-treo> I do too
[00:08] <Starkey-treo> last year I did
[00:08] <Starkey-treo> not 2005
[00:08] <noiz77> i have the 2005 one
[00:28] <DeltaZap> I guess we can turn this place into a pre-MPEG4 recorder party
[00:28] <Yono> I guess so
[00:29] <DeltaZap> I'm still debating if I want to get one to try out
[00:29] <Yono> well, six months return policy
[00:29] <DeltaZap> The largest problem is finding something to record because I hardly even watch TV as it is
[00:30] <Yono> hey CiTay
[00:30] <CiTay> ah hi
[00:33] <DeltaZap> oops, Kathryn slipped up a bit
[00:33] <Yono> heh, I noticed
[00:34] <ivel> so recalled huh?
[00:34] <ivel> so are you not supposed to announce woot deals or what?
[00:34] <DeltaZap> just the message
[00:34] <Koron> well
[00:34] <Koron> are you sure it's not just because she doesn't want it to be seen by anyone not already on the list?
[00:34] <DeltaZap> I think she was probably getting the message all ready and formatted and just slipped up and hit send
[00:35] <DeltaZap> it was only sent to those on the list
[00:35] <Koron> I mean, isn't is possible to get a list of past sent messages?
[00:35] <Koron> if she does a recall, it effectively disappears from that
[00:35] <ivel> oh i see....
[00:36] <ivel> well i still have it
[00:36] <DeltaZap> Ah, yeah, i see what you are saying
[00:36] <Koron> conspiracy theories aside, I think that's what happened :-p
[00:37] <DeltaZap> no, it's still up on the mailing list
[00:38] <Koron> oh, weird
[00:38] <DeltaZap> It looks like she submitted it, recalled it, then submitted it again
[00:39] <Koron> it seems like a cool gadget, just doesn't seem like there is a huge market for it
[00:39] <ivel> hrm... Koron i feel the same way
[00:39] <DeltaZap> I agree, that's why i'm a bit wary about grabbing one
[00:39] <DeltaZap> having something to display pictures is a neat feature, though
[00:42] <ivel> think i'm pretty much set till N3 comes out....
[00:42] <solomon> i wonder whether early Q3 would be a bold estimate on the n3
[00:42] <solomon> as opposed to late Q3
[00:43] <ivel> your guess is as good as anyones!
[00:43] <solomon> because i will be going on a long hiking trip in the summer
[00:43] <ivel> dinner!
[00:43] <solomon> and i am really hoping that i can use the neuros to xfer pics from my camera
[00:43] <solomon> then i could take many many pics
[00:43] <Koron> a 512mb card is purty cheap :-p
[00:44] <DeltaZap> 1 gig cards aren't badly priced either
[00:44] <Yono> solomon: syncbox!
[00:46] <solomon> huh
[00:46] <solomon> oh
[00:46] <solomon> eh
[00:47] <solomon> how about 80 1 gig cards?
[00:47] <solomon> :D
[00:47] <solomon> it will be a 6.3 mpixel camera, each image is.. what.. alittle less than 4 MB
[00:48] <solomon> and i am a beginner, i will probably want to do something i just learned about in my photography class called "bracketing"
[00:49] <solomon> where you take anywhere from 3-9 pics of that same thing, at different f-stops and shutters speeds and iso settings to guard against your errors in judging the lighting etc.
[00:50] <solomon> and let's say i take 5 different angles on each subject i capture -- that's for still subjects of course, if i got wildlife i might just have it take 2.5 pictures per second for many seconds
[00:51] <solomon> but on still subjects, then, 1 shot would take up about 40M bracketed, 5 shots would take up 200M, so i would fill a 1G card after shooting 5 subjects
[00:51] <solomon> hehe
[00:51] <solomon> Yono: so.. what's a syncbox :)
[00:52] <Koron> well, I didn't realize you were going overboard with an almost excessive resolution camera
[00:52] <Koron> :-p
[00:52] <Koron> depends on what you're doing with them
[00:52] <Yono> solomon: the original www.neurosaudio.com
[00:52] <Koron> > 3 megapixels is enough for 95% of people
[00:52] <Yono> thats MSRP, you could get cheaper
[00:52] <Yono> or
[00:52] <Yono> www.macally.com
[00:53] <Yono> thats vaporware it seems :(
[00:53] <solomon> Koron: it's actually the minimum resolution you are going to get with a kickass digital SLR camera
[00:53] <solomon> Koron: which is what i am really going overboard with
[00:53] <Koron> yow
[00:53] <Koron> those are all $1000+
[00:54] <solomon> www.bhphotovideo.com
[00:54] <solomon> Koron: $700 used, _with_ the $150 lense
[00:54] <Koron> cool
[00:54] <solomon> Koron: pretty pricey, but i am going for it :)
[00:55] <solomon> Yono: hey, _WOW_
[00:55] <solomon> Yono: i had no idea that existed.. and it is exactly what i want
[00:55] <solomon> Yono: it is almost unfortunate that i know it exists now because it means i will probably spend another $150 on things i don't need
[00:55] <Yono> solomon: its been tested to work with the USB 2.0 backpack
[00:56] <solomon> Yono: for that, and a $100 battery pack to make the thing go for a long long time
[00:56] <solomon> Yono: and i'm already spending $300 on the 80G usb2 backpack :)
[00:56] * solomon  remembers when he bought the neuros largely because it was the cheapest option :)
[00:56] <Yono> lol
[00:57] <Yono> well solomon, if you search around there are about 3 or so other devices like that
[00:57] <Yono> I think ecost.com had the syncbox the cheapest with free shipping
[00:59] <solomon> i just figured it up
[00:59] <solomon> i could take 28,000 pictures before having to reach another computer for syncing
[00:59] <solomon> Yono: they all attach to the neuros?
[01:00] <Yono> yep
[01:00] <Yono> the n3 with the USB host would be easier, but oh well
[01:00] <solomon> hehe yeah and lighter
[01:01] <Yono> solomon: just not the USB 1.1 port, because it isn't interpreted as a USB mass storage device like the port on the backpack
[01:02] <Yono> however remember the syncbox works slow because it can only transfer at USB 1.1
[01:03] <solomon> Yono: it says it supports usb2.. does i mean it runs it at 1.1 speed or something?
[01:03] <Yono> yep
[01:04] <Yono> here's the original topic: www.neurosaudio.com
[01:59] * derobert  wonders if he should start singing "Tonight"
[02:05] <ink|work> absolutely
[02:12] <derobert> Well, then... "♩ Tonight, tonight, won'ts be just any night... ♩"
[02:13] <derobert> Actually, maybe this version is better:
[02:14] <derobert> "Tonight, tonight \\ it all began tonight \\ I saw you and the world went away..."
[02:14] <derobert> Except now I'm singing a girl's part, and that's weird :-(
[02:38] <Yono> hello
[02:57] <sorune> hello
[02:58] <sorune> i'm looking for an EAC replacement for linux, is grip the best out there?
[02:59] <ink|work> eac?
[02:59] <brenden> cdparanoia
[02:59] <sorune> exact audio copy, i believe
[02:59] <ink|work> ah
[02:59] <brenden> er
[02:59] <brenden> wait
[02:59] <ink|work> you can use grip to rip cds
[02:59] <ink|work> as far as burning cds, cdrecord will do it
[03:00] <sorune> ok
[03:00] <brenden> yeah, cdparanoia is good
[03:01] <brenden> it attempts to make perfect copies
[03:01] <sorune> i think grip uses it as it's backend
[03:01] <brenden> would make sense
[03:01] <brenden> i think i've only ever ripped one cd in linux
[03:02] <sorune> that's where i'm coming from, i only use EAC
[03:02] <brenden> even though i've been using it exclusively for more then a year now
[03:03] <sorune> i have used cdex, but eac seems to clean up scratches better
[03:04] <brenden> when i used windows, i always used cdex
[03:06] <sorune> now that i've finally got a responsive desktop on linux, i'm trying to wean myself from the darkside too :)
[03:11] <chreekat> Anyone know anything about texinfo?
[03:11] <brenden> www.gnu.org
[03:13] <chreekat> as far as I can tell, the default hardcopy letter size is legal. I need letter.
[03:13] <chreekat> er. "hardcopy paper size"
[03:27] <chreekat> hm, dips -t letter should be all I need
[03:27] <chreekat> dvips*
[03:29] <chreekat> That got it... yay.
[03:30] <chreekat> Printing the gcc internals manual has taken way too much time
[03:30] <chreekat> I'm set now; just have to find the double-sided printer that is somewhere in this building...
[03:30] <brenden> full duplex rocks
[03:32] <unknown_lamer> I wish I could find a european printer
[03:33] <unknown_lamer> and use european sizes
[03:33] <unknown_lamer> because they make far more sense, especially whatever size that is less than A4 is (I forgot if bigger number = bigger paper or the other way around)
[03:33] <unknown_lamer> because that paper is the perfect size for printing really long stuff that has to be stapled together and then carried around.
