[00:09] <marcboy> :D sourne 0.5.1 has various artis support
[00:11] <noiz> oh yeah, forgot that only the dev release had that...
[00:11] <marcboy> well i got it, jus gotta compile
[00:12] <noiz> if you use audioscrobbler, it also has AS support
[00:12] <marcboy> i saw that, what is it?
[00:12] <noiz> audioscrobbler.com
[00:12] <noiz> records what songs you listen to
[00:12] <noiz> and sends the list to their site
[00:12] <marcboy> and that help neuros how?
[00:14] <noiz> there is a firmware version that logs what songs you listen to
[00:14] <marcboy> oh right
[00:14] <marcboy> btw. with the dev version i double click the sourne.pl after all the perl install and it bring up a box then closes :S
[00:15] <noiz> what OS do you use?
[00:15] <marcboy> win 2003
[00:16] <noiz> dont you just double click the file named "sorune"?
[00:16] <marcboy> i did
[00:16] <marcboy> wait name jus sourne?
[00:16] <noiz> i think so
[00:16] <noiz> thats what i click on in linux
[00:16] <marcboy> that brings up the "open with" dialog
[00:17] <noiz> well then try and run it with the command line and see what errors it gives you
[00:17] <marcboy> ok
[00:18] <marcboy> nothing
[00:18] <noiz> did you follow the instructions on the dev site to install that extra module you need?
[00:19] <marcboy> yeh
[00:19] <marcboy> reinstall?
[00:19] <noiz> try "perl sorune.pl --rebuild"
[00:19] <marcboy> ok hold on
[00:19] <noiz> k
[00:20] <kronin> marcboy: before you track down why sorune's dev version isn't working, did you see if rebuilding with sorune fixed your track length issues?
[00:20] <marcboy> yeh workd! :D
[00:20] <noiz> cool
[00:20] <marcboy> noiz: did nothing
[00:21] <noiz> what was the output?
[00:21] <noiz> double click my name and send it just to me
[00:21] <marcboy> nothing
[00:21] <noiz> k
[00:23] <noiz> have you tried 0.5 and see if it works for you?
[00:23] <marcboy> the d/l yeh, but not a dev version
[00:24] <marcboy> ah! i tried the prev dev release of 0.5.1 and thats worked!
[00:24] <noiz> k
[00:25] <noiz> so see if that fixes your track length problem
[00:25] <marcboy> k
[00:27] <marcboy> :) im quite liking sourne
[00:28] <noiz> cool, i like it too :)
[00:28] <noiz> hopefully it will fix your problems
[00:29] <marcboy> yeh! :D
[00:30] <noiz> are you using the gui to rebuild, or the command line?
[00:31] <marcboy> gui
[00:31] <noiz> and you have usb1, right?
[00:31] <marcboy> 2
[00:31] <noiz> so it shouldnt take too long, how far is it now?
[00:32] <marcboy> done! :D
[00:32] <noiz> cool
[00:33] <marcboy> still cant get the various artist to work tho :S
[00:33] <noiz> did you have it checked in the config menu?
[00:33] <marcboy> yeh
[00:34] <marcboy> i'll try a rebuild
[00:34] <noiz> did you just do a rebuild?
[00:34] <noiz> *didnt
[00:35] <marcboy> yeh but im not sure if i had it cheked or not
[00:35] <noiz> then do a rebuild full
[00:35] <noiz> just to be safe
[00:35] <marcboy> i am
[00:35] <noiz> k
[00:36] <marcboy> anyway im off to bed, college 2moz, thanx for all the help guys
[00:36] <noiz> later
[00:36] <noiz> if you run into problems post on the sorune forums
[00:36] <marcboy> i will
[00:36] <noiz> and request better various artist support
[00:36] <marcboy> yeh
[00:37] <noiz> k, later
[01:29] <chreekat> That's the best quit message I've seen
[02:10] <John_Cheese> Hey again. I charged my Neuros all night like Yono said to last week, then I plugged just the hd in usb but the pc didn't recognize it. Then, I attached the brain and tried to turn it on, but nothing happened like before. So, Yono, if you have any more advice, I'd be glad to hear it. oh and sorry for taking like a week to reply again. really, advice from anyone would be cool.
[02:11] <Yono> ok, how about you take out the brain and push in the pins a little
[02:11] <Yono> do it gently of course
[02:11] <John_Cheese> how do you mean push them in a little?
[02:12] <Yono> push them in towards the brain
[02:12] <John_Cheese> like bend them a little, or push the thing they're attached to a little?
[02:17] <John_Cheese> Signs of life! i put the brain in for kicks and just the orange light came on until i hit the power button to see if i could turn it on, but then it went out.
[02:28] <jbn-o> What's coming up for Neuros devices? New add-ons, new Neuros machines, new services for extant Neuros users, something else?
[02:30] <noiz> the PVP or personal video player is coming
[02:30] <noiz> sometime in May
[02:31] <noiz> look at this - open.neurosaudio.com
[02:46] <jbn-o> noiz: thanks!
[02:47] <noiz> np
[02:47] <jbn-o> noiz: why MPEG-4 instead of Theora?
[02:47] <noiz> more widely used is my guess
[02:49] <noiz> although theora could be implemented if linux is ported to the recorder
[02:50] <jbn-o> Some fellow recently made a simple camera which records Ogg Theora files to an internal storage area, then the user can copy the file via ethernet to another computer.
[02:50] <jbn-o> I think I can find a link on this if you don't already know about it.
[02:51] <noiz> didnt hear about that one, but it sounds pretty cool
[02:51] <Yono> I can't believe Joe is actually calling it the 442
[02:51] <jbn-o> Let me see if I can find a link to this.
[02:51] <Yono> I thought it was just a codename for development
[02:51] <noiz> havnt really used theora myself, so i cant see how good it is
[02:51] <noiz> Yono: what!? thats what they are actually calling it?
[02:52] <jbn-o> noiz: linuxdevices.com
[02:52] <Yono> it seems like it
[02:53] <jbn-o> One of the links there holds a couple of sample Ogg Theora movie files. Unfortunately, you'll probably need a very fast computer to play them at full speed (except for one--the slow-motion one) because the Theora codec in most players is not highly optimized (or so I'm told).
[02:53] <chreekat> ...that sounds like a possible reason for choosing mpeg. :)
[02:53] <noiz> sounds like it would be hard to implement on the recorder then
[02:54] <Yono> noiz: it seems like its the real name from what joe says here: www.neurosaudio.com
[02:54] <chreekat> What's with those Ogg people? Choosing the "system resources abound aplenty.. eventually" philosophy?
[02:55] <chreekat> I've already heard that Vorbis decoding takes a good amount of horsepower.
[02:55] <chreekat> Or is it that mp3 just has hardware support?
[02:55] <jbn-o> chreekat: I'd say it's a reason to write a more optimized Theora codec, because I'd wonder about patent infringement with MPEG codecs.
[02:56] <Yono> nah, they pay all the royalties
[02:56] <jbn-o> I don't see what you're getting at.
[02:58] <jbn-o> The Theora camera is quite impressive. If it could stream the Ogg Vorbis data to a computer rather than storing it internally (which imposes an impractical limit on total file size), I'd get one.
[05:14] <edbgon> so is the garbage branch updated anymore?
[05:18] <noiz> you could always build your own from the cvs :)
[05:20] <noiz> if you want to get some fairly new garbage firmware that also has audioscrobbler support, you can get it at firmware.sorune.com
[05:27] <edbgon> wow scrobbler :)
[05:28] <edbgon> i have the firmware from december
[05:28] <noiz> nice
[05:30] <noiz> im just about to upload my playlog to AS
[05:30] <edbgon> i cant access audioscrobbler is the server down?
[05:31] <noiz> dunno, let me see if i can
[05:31] <noiz> nuts, i cant either
[05:33] <noiz> and the rss feeds arnt working either :(
[05:33] <edbgon> bummer
[05:33] <edbgon> it wasnt working yesterday either
[05:34] <edbgon> i wonder what the server load was on that thing
[05:34] <noiz> and they had just installed a lot of new servers...
[05:36] <edbgon> hmm
[05:40] <noiz> argh, now im going to have to wait until the morning
[05:40] <noiz> well, im off to bed
[05:40] <noiz> later
[14:09] <morgajelWork> how long should my order be in the "processing" stage?
[14:33] <mbishop> it might just show up
[14:34] <mbishop> heard a few people say they got theirs while it was 'processing'
[19:34] <JoshMalone> 'lo all
[19:36] <sgomes> hi josh
[19:38] <JoshMalone> welcome to the Neuros family, BTW :)
[19:44] <sgomes> oh
[19:44] <sgomes> heh, thx
[19:44] <sgomes> I'll still have to wait a while ;)
[19:47] <JoshMalone> I know - waiting sux
[19:51] <sgomes> yeah... maybe I'll spend some time looking at the source code for Sorune and the firmware
[20:09] <JoshMalone> cool
[21:29] <noiz> DeepB: you on?
[21:30] <erwan_ho> hey folks
[21:31] <noiz> hey
[21:57] <noiz> hey Yono
[21:57] <Yono> hey noiz
[21:57] <Yono> anything interesting happen today?
[21:57] <noiz> not that i can see
[21:58] <noiz> do you know if there is going to be a meeting this weekend?
[22:03] <Yono> no, sorry
[22:15] <noiz> Yono: tell me what you think of this thing i made, that i want to see if DeepB could incorporate in his firmware, its a little lock icon that would be located on the left top side of the now playing screen, and is the size of the XI icon that is on the top right side of the now playing screen - sorune.com
[22:15] <noiz> its kinda hard to see on the computer though :(
[22:16] <Yono> I'm sure it could be added in
[22:16] <noiz> yeah, id think it would be, and it would be pretty useful too
[22:17] <Yono> I'd much rather not have Neuros cache mid-song, but thats good too ;)
[22:17] <noiz> or you could just turn the volume up a lot more and then it would be fixed ;)
[22:19] <Yono> what are you up to DeepB?
[22:19] <Yono> just curious, you don't have to say if you don't want to/aren't here
[22:22] <noiz> doesnt look like hes here :(
[23:06] <nerochiaro> noiz: what's the lock icon for ?
[23:07] <noiz> for when the lock is on, right now the firmware doesnt show the lock is enabled
[23:07] <nerochiaro> for when the lock key is engaged ?
[23:07] <noiz> yeah, do you think it could be easily implemented?
[23:08] <nerochiaro> i'm not sure if it would be easy to detect the activation/deactivation of the lock key from a central location. drawing the icon should be rather easy
[23:10] <nerochiaro> you need the icon only on the now playing screen ? or anywhere ?
[23:10] <noiz> id think just the now playing screen would be fine
[23:11] <nerochiaro> the up-left corner it's part of the title bar, anyway
[23:13] <noiz> you mean next to the words "NOW PLAYING"?
[23:14] <nerochiaro> yes. wasn't that you asked before ? "left top side" ?
[23:14] <noiz> yeah, couldnt you put an icon there?
[23:14] <nerochiaro> yes, it should be possible, like the XI one
[23:15] <noiz> yeah, i just took the xi icon and made the lock the same size, so it should be like the xi one
[23:17] <nerochiaro> i think it's definitely possible
[23:19] <noiz> cuz i know some people have requested it, and i want it to be implemented too
[23:20] <nerochiaro> it might be nice in certain cases, but remember that when the LCD backlight goes off during lock you won't probably be seeing the lock icon anyway most of the time
[23:21] <nerochiaro> but maybe eyes better than mine would still see it ;)
[23:22] <noiz> i can usually see if the backlight is off, or at least that theres a black thing in the corner
[23:22] <nerochiaro> you're right
[23:24] <nerochiaro> i'm looking now, and i see that the lock key state change is detected by the fw, so it's possible to just set a global flag when it changes, and then use it in the the now playing menu to draw the lock icon
[23:25] <noiz> k
[23:34] <noiz> nerochiaro: so you think DeepB would include it in his firmware?
[23:58] <nerochiaro> noiz: tricky question. i have no idea, you're better off emailing him, i guess
[23:59] * nerochiaro  is off to sleep
