[00:00] <sourcerror> on svn there is a tag "OSD_VER_3.27-0.57_070116" but nothing for 0.58, right? why is this?
[02:05] <daurn> hi
[02:05] <sumasuma> hi
[02:06] <sourcerror> hi
[02:06] <sumasuma> i could not get my divx movies to play correctly, is it still under development ?
[02:07] <daurn> whats new?
[02:09] <sourcerror> sumasuma: sorry you should report the details (not sure whether bugzilla or mail list is preferred by Neuros)
[02:10] <sumasuma> sourcerror: i'm not sure whether i missed anything, I sent an email regarding my mpeg playback using simba, still waiting for response
[02:10] <sumasuma> sourcerror: I will send one for divx too
[02:11] <crweb> suma have i not responded several times?
[02:12] <sumasuma> crweb: regarding the Samba with XP ?
[02:12] <crweb> yes
[02:12] <sumasuma> crweb: yes, but not regarding the playback with mpeg delay with Samba
[02:13] <crweb> that is what we are discussing
[02:13] <crweb> the delay not on the router, but on the switch
[02:14] <sumasuma> crweb: on the same switch when I play with media player using the same server serving the files, it works fine
[02:14] <crweb> that doesnt' mean anything
[02:14] <sumasuma> It means OSD fails to play like media player while reading the data from the server through samba
[02:14] <crweb> you're talking about different hardware, software, cables, and ports
[02:14] <crweb> there are a lot of variables
[02:14] <sumasuma> I dunno where is the fault.
[02:15] <crweb> that is what we are discussing
[02:15] <crweb> you have to find the fault to fix it
[02:15] <sumasuma> hardware, software, cables, and ports <--- I don't think there is a problem
[02:15] <crweb> you cant just say "this isn't working"
[02:15] <crweb> and expect a fix
[02:15] <crweb> cause, it DOES work for me
[02:16] <sumasuma> crweb: the problem with samba is discused under two scenerios
[02:16] <sumasuma> 1. I don't see the share of XP
[02:16] <sumasuma> 2. Playing of the mpeg file
[02:16] <crweb> and you aren't going to
[02:16] <crweb> we are discussing #2
[02:16] <crweb> #1 is known, and is being worked on, and exists for everyone
[02:16] <sumasuma> the discussion in the ML, i'm responding to the #1
[02:16] <crweb> #2 is just you
[02:17] <crweb> on the ML I was troble shooting your #2
[02:17] <crweb> there is no fix for #1
[02:17] <sumasuma> ok
[02:17] <sumasuma> Looks like there is a confusion
[02:17] <crweb> I was asking for people NOT using the osd
[02:17] <sumasuma> I was responding to #1
[02:18] <sumasuma> ok
[02:18] <sumasuma> Now Media Player, Xine works fine with the same switch for the mpeg video
[02:18] <sumasuma> I could not get the OSD to work with
[02:19] <crweb> All of my responses have been about your playing problem
[02:19] <crweb> the original post was asking for people who have Linux PC's who can see windows XP shares
[02:20] <sumasuma> I can see XP shares in OSD !
[02:20] <sumasuma> with the router that is what I meant there
[02:21] <crweb> ok..
[02:21] <crweb> tomorrow, I will talk with you about that.
[02:21] <sumasuma> sure
[02:21] <crweb> I need to look at some things in your config
[02:23] <sumasuma> once you are free, let me know i will share the info with you
[02:24] <sumasuma> i could not have a guess regarding the mpeg !
[02:24] <sourcerror> crweb: on svn there is a tag "OSD_VER_3.27-0.57_070116" but nothing for 0.58, right? do you know why?
[02:25] <sumasuma> i can also confirm the other network variables is not affecting it
[02:27] <crweb> sourcerror: i'm sorry, i don't use tags
[02:28] <nerochiaro> sourcerror: they probably didn't make a tag from trunk yet when they released it. trunk as of yesterday works. you can use that in the meantime
[02:28] <crweb> wow, you're up early
[02:28] <sourcerror> ah. thanks.
[02:28] <nerochiaro> crweb: not really, it's 9:30 here
[02:29] <crweb> my clock wrong?
[02:29] <nerochiaro> i'd say so
[02:29] <crweb> 2:30 + 6 = 8:30
[02:29] <nerochiaro> +7
[02:29] <crweb> ah..
[02:30] <nerochiaro> crweb: this is handy: tinyurl.com
[02:30] <crweb> well, its only 4pm in china. So they still have some time to tag
[02:30] <crweb> 4:30
[02:30] <nerochiaro> well, they should actually start tagging before release, IMHO. but still...
[02:36] <daurn> any news?
[02:41] <nerochiaro> daurn: new fw is out
[02:41] <daurn> .57?
[13:16] <Milesy2> Hi folks. Is there any movement on network shares for xp yet ?
[13:24] <ataylor> we are INNNNNNNNNN
[13:26] * chreekat  claps for ataylor
[13:27] <crweb> Milesy2: i've been working on it
[13:31] <Milesy2> will it work with a standalone NAS device just now ?
[13:51] <Milesy2> I tried to connect my usb MP3 player to the neuros.. should it not have picked it up?
[13:52] <nerochiaro> Milesy2: if it's usb mass storage, is should
[13:52] <Milesy2> it is
[13:52] <Milesy2> was wanting to us it to upgrade the firmware
[13:52] <Milesy2> *use
[13:52] <nerochiaro> do you have media cards ?
[13:53] <Milesy2> one in my digital camera not sure if it will work though
[13:53] <Milesy2> olympus xD media card
[13:54] <nerochiaro> are they proprietary cards or do they work like SD cards ?
[13:54] <nerochiaro> anyway, with USB you should be able to do the upgrade
[13:55] <nerochiaro> only from osdmain though, not at boot
[13:55] <Milesy2> just checked
[13:55] <Milesy2> doesnt fit
[13:55] <Milesy2> will try hook my digital camera up directly to it
[13:55] <Milesy2> through usb
[13:55] <nerochiaro> should work, but your player should've worked too
[13:57] <Milesy2> yeah working with the camera
[13:57] <Milesy2> not with the mo3 player through strang
[13:58] <Milesy2> packard bell audiodream
[13:58] <Milesy2> all reports indicate that is *IS* mass storage
[14:00] <nerochiaro> try telnetting into the OSD, plug in the usb drive then check dmesg
[14:00] <nerochiaro> it spits in there some messages when i connect usb drives
[14:00] <nerochiaro> they might help you
[14:17] <Milesy2> ah cook
[14:17] <Milesy2> cool
[14:17] <Milesy2> will try that
[14:20] <Milesy2> is there a way to manually connect to an IP address for a network share ?
[14:20] <Milesy2> I have 2 subnets at home
[14:20] <Milesy2> im not sure if it will detect my win2k machine across to the second subnet
[14:31] <Milesy2> It wont
[14:31] <Milesy2> i have set up a windows 2000 share
[14:31] <Milesy2> and its not being detected
[14:31] <Milesy2> :(
[14:38] <Milesy2> any ideas anyone?? :(
[14:39] <Milesy2> can i mount over telnet
[14:42] <Milesy2> how do i get into via telnet?
[14:51] <Milesy2> ok I am in. but I cant get it to mount the drive
[14:54] <srobertson> Milesy2: what command are you trying?
[14:55] <nerochiaro> Milesy2: "the drive" is the usb drive you were talking about before ?
[14:55] <Milesy2> no I am trying to connect to a network share now nerochiaro
[14:55] <Milesy2> sorry wrong terminology
[14:55] <Milesy2> > /mnt/tmpfs/media # mount.cifs //192.168.1.4/shared win2k -o user=Chris Miles pass=xxxxxx
[14:56] <nerochiaro> ah, ok. i'm not very expert with the whole smb stuff yet, so i'll pass on this one
[14:58] <Milesy2> It wont accept \\192.168.1.4
[14:58] <Milesy2> i need to escape both the slashes for it to take that
[14:58] <Milesy2> i think
[14:58] <Milesy2> lol
[15:22] <Milesy2> srobertson: u there?
[15:49] <Milesy2> is there any real support for this product
[15:49] <Milesy2> i feel like i have wasted my money
[15:49] <Milesy2> i know it need a little work.. but it seems to be nothing works
[15:49] <Milesy2> i managed to mount a network drive, but the AV playback of a movie here is terrible
[15:50] <Milesy2> image almost looks negative
[15:50] <Milesy2> colours all off and jumpy
[15:50] <Milesy2> silouettes
[15:51] <nerochiaro> can you play a video off of USB ? does it have the same problems ?
[15:51] <Milesy2> i dont have a means to play from usb
[15:51] <Milesy2> i have 2 avi files
[15:51] <Milesy2> one plays fine
[15:51] <Milesy2> the other is terrible
[15:51] <Milesy2> but it plays ok on my laptop, and on my hard drive media player
[15:52] <Milesy2> can the video settings be changed for playback?
[15:53] <nerochiaro> what is the format of the file that gives problems ?
[15:54] <nerochiaro> and also, what video settings do you want to change ?
[15:54] <Milesy2> xvid
[15:54] <Milesy2> NTSC
[15:54] <Milesy2> i want to change settings so it "plays" somehow lol
[15:58] <nerochiaro> if it plays that bad, it just means the codecs don't currently support that format well. the suggestions in this case are: 1) try with more updated firmwares, codec support is improving 2) make a short clip of that movie, then if it still plays crap, attach it to a bug in neuros bugzilla so that the neuros folks can see what's wrong and either support the format better or not play it all in the future
[15:58] <Milesy2> thanks
[15:59] <nerochiaro> option 2 is better. include as much details as possible with the bug (firmware version, all the info you can find about the actual codec used to create that video, etc)
[16:00] <Milesy2> are vob files not suppported yet ?
[16:01] <nerochiaro> no, they are not
[16:01] <nerochiaro> at least last i checked
[16:01] <nerochiaro> several weeks ago
[16:01] <Milesy2> i renamed to mpg but its very jittery on this
[16:02] <nerochiaro> i don't think the filename matters, does it =
[16:02] <nerochiaro> ?
[16:02] <Milesy2> I think it would have been a much better idea if they used chips for video decoding
[16:02] <Milesy2> i wouldnt have minded paying a little more
[16:02] <nerochiaro> it's much less flexible. if something is wrong, you can't update a chip
[16:03] <Milesy2> i have a cheapo ide hd media player... cost about £30 ($60)
[16:03] <Milesy2> and its never had a problem playing any kind of file i have thrown at it
[16:03] <nerochiaro> that only means you have been lucky so far
[16:04] <Milesy2> hmm
[16:04] <nerochiaro> and what about supporting more formats in the future ?
[16:04] <nerochiaro> a non-upgradeable player can't do that
[16:04] <Milesy2> chips for the basic types though
[16:05] <Milesy2> I am accessing a window xp network share just now
[16:05] <nerochiaro> still makes impossible to fix anything wrong with the original chips
[16:05] <Milesy2> thought it was not working
[16:05] <nerochiaro> Milesy2: beware that playing through xp share is still being worked on, might be a shakey
[16:06] <nerochiaro> a bit shakey
[16:19] <Milesy2> cool :)
[16:19] <Milesy2> Icya folks
[18:40] <vmarks> [g2]
[18:41] <[g2]> vmarks welcome back in country
[18:41] <vmarks> I'm not in country.
[18:41] <vmarks> I'm in hong kong.
[18:41] <vmarks> kowloon.
[18:42] <[g2]> Ah... I thought you were back :)
[18:43] <vmarks> leave tomorrow, arrive thurs.
[18:43] <vmarks> it's tues here.
[19:09] <vmarks> [g2] what's new in neurosland?
[19:12] <[g2]> vmarks dunno much, I've been playing with PVR from linux pc land
[19:12] <[g2]> I'm up to the point of needing programming info
[19:13] <[g2]> I can capture/edit/burn dvds with either mpeg-2 or dv
[19:14] <Hostile> ah Joe isn't around :(
