well I want to record live cable, the cable is coaxial (no setup box).

so I got a coaxial going from OSD - to the TV front (input) and I was able to play video with no issues.

okay... and you're getting static, so that means there's two possibilities:

1) the video isn't being outputed or

2) the OSD isn't working

(I highly doubt 2, but it's always a possibility)

so the next step is to determine if you're getting your video out

It's normal to see the OSD controls overlapping the DVD video

S-Video does not carry sound... you'd still need to use the sound from the component video.
