Anyone going to Yahoo Hack Day?

Yahoo is having a hackday thing that sounds like something you kooky kids might be interested in:  http://hackday.org for more information.

Anyway, its Sept 29-30 and you sleep in tents, get no money and contribute all your creativity to a powerful new media corporation for the weekend.  Somewhere I'm sure there's a pot of gold at the end of this rainbow, but I'm far too old to begin to understand it.

Anyway, what caught my eye was that they're looking for you to hack on "Yahoo's platforms or APIs. This includes the (awesome!) Yahoo UI libraries, maps, search, local, flickr, del.icio.us, etc."

I've  often  thought it would be cool to access flickr  with the OSD  so you could browse it on the TV with a remote.   Viewing things on a TV screen is something you  kids may become  interested in when your backs give out from years of being hunched over a computer keyboard.

Anyway , if  you are  interested in  pimping  our stuff, maybe we'll give you a Wal-Mart tent and some cheap whisky.

*sigh* I really am too old for this line of work.

I'll be there. :)

Hey Joe, I'm helping out on Open Hack Day (this is gonna be pretty nuts), and we'd love to get some hackers (Yahoos and others) working on the OSD thing during Hack Day.

I'll drop an email to developer at neuros but feel free to get in touch with me directly.

In addition to http://hackday.org/ you can drop by the Upcoming page for the event: http://upcoming.org/event/101629/

Also, it's not quite as

Also, it's not quite as bleak as you depict. We're providing food, drinks, and entertainment - it's supposed to be an event where hackers can get together, have fun, network, show off, and see what they can make in a day.

Developers retain all their own IP. We just want to see some cool stuff get made.

I was just poking fun

I'm sure it was a cool thing, it's just funnier to poke fun than to be serious.  Sorry if I offended anyone.

I didn't see the location

I didn't see the location mentioned anywhere on that page. You know where they'd be having this event?

sunnyvale, cal?

I believe it's at their headquarters.

I guess I won't be

I guess I won't be attending. CA is a bit far for me to travel during the semester.
