How to Destroy an Open Source Community with Money

Nerochiaro forwarded an article, Financing Volunteer Free Software Projects that I found pretty interesting.   As many of you know, we are actively recruiting  some members of our community  (including  Mr. Nero) for full time paid positions, and the article was basically forwarded to me in the context of that, but I really found it has some very good points for our existing "hybrid" team of internal and volunteer developers.  There are a number of hazards that need to be addressed in our current organization including better involvement of outside developers in all our internal communications, etc.  Any thoughts from you, our beloved community members would be much appreciated here of course.  Do you feel we're falling into some of the above traps(crowding out the community, not involving the community in communication, etc)?  What can we do to correct it?
