Please Join me in extending a hearty welcome to our newest fulltime addition to the team, John Olson
John has been a part of Neuros since the N1. He is, at long last, coming on fulltime to head "Design" for Neuros. This is a big collection of a lot of things, from Industrial Design to graphic design of the website, packaging to User Interface, and the user experience generally, and oh yes the keeper of the branding, imagery, and um.. well you get the idea, it's big.
For those of you that haven't met John, he was very specifically chosen not just for his terrific design ability, but also for his innate understanding of the Neuros culture and what the Neuros brand means (or perhaps more accurately aspires to mean). He has toiled quietly as a volunteer for a long time (he even designed the N1 user interface). Most recently he's done all the design work for the OSD, which as many of you know, was an an Innovations Honoree at this year's CES. He has as much heart and passion for Neuros as our most prominent hackers, and he's making a great leap of faith from a nice well paying corporate gig to join our movement!
In his own words
"Design has many meanings. A common misconception is to think of artistically originated design as decoration or styling. In similar terms, this would mean that programmers are typists.
In Neuros terms, the word Design can be meaningfully paired with concept, code, electrical, mechanical, packaging, web, and a few others. These are not separate items on a linear path, but rather intertwined elements of the resulting whole.
To me, the appearance of a product and its related materials is vitally important, but without the artful crafting of each element, the resulting whole will be meaningless and we will all need to get day jobs."
