New Firmware Auto-Updater for Neuros OSD

In the interest of allowing interested testers, super users, to be more up to date with what developers are working on, we've introduced two new upgrade paths in the official auto-update feature.

"Dev" Update will give you the latest nightly builds
"Beta" will give you updates with some internal testing
"official" will be the most thoroughly tested, stable and least frequent.

To get started, Dev version 3.33-x.7b can be downloaded here

After you update to 3.33-x.7b, you can change the update mode in Settings->Firmware Upgrade:

As always, comments and questions are welcome.

Geek.com: Recording TV shows on the iPhone with the OSD

geek.com has a write up of their experience using the OSD with the iPhone. So far it's only through iTunes, but maybe some clever hacker can solve this? Seems to me that it could be done by simply setting the OSD to record to a shared directory and automated with applescript on iTunes, or maybe there's a clever way to do it directly with the OSD and iPhone?

Discuss on mailing list should we have another bounty?

Are you going to buy (or already bought) a Neuros OSD?

Help to build a new music service, from the ground up!

A few friends and I have been creating a new music website that is all about the artist. We are looking for some feedback from music fans, so we have created a blog on blogspot.

http://freedomfortheartist.blogspot.com/

In short, our new site will provide a place for artists to get their music "out there." The goal is to help the artist, whom never would have had a shot, get their music heard.

We are looking for people to come take our polls and post opinions. We are also looking for web developers, database help, and anyone interested and motivated ect...

New Neuros Swag, Not Available at any Price!

We've got some new mugs and shirts, but they're not for sale at any price. That's right, we felt selling our beloved trademarked products were cheapening the importance of Consumer Electronic's primary brand of freedom.

Well anyway, these are giveaways to those that code, test, hack, participate on the forums, shout the gospel from street corners, show up at our office, etc. If you are one of the above, and feel you've been overlooked, please let us know (jborn at neurostechnology dot com- no one else will have the patience to deal with this), and we'll get these treasures to you right away, just whatever you do, don't try to offer us cash for them! Or at least if you do, don't insult us with a low offer anyway.

YouTube on the TV with the OSD

NEUROS OSD YOUTUBE OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

Not many areas of the internet can inspire the imagination about the future of communication more than Internet video. Within a year of its inception, YouTube had already become a phenomenon that had changed elections and the media forever. Its removed barriers of communication that have existed since the inception of radio and television. Never before has the power to broadcast to the world been held in the hand of practically every individual with something to say.

Until you actually experience it, you might not appreciate how powerful moving that phenomenon to the TV set actually is. You might think it's just another screen in the house, but use it and you'll find it completely changes the way you use it. Instead of hunched over the computer alone, you'll find yourself sharing videos with your friends on the couch, or watching from bed just before sleep.

Happy 80th Birthday Dad

You might wonder why my birthday wishes for my dad would be on OdNT, it's because his support has been so instrumental in getting where we are. He's been the number one Neuros fan since inception, and I dedicated the new "experimental" YouTube browser to him. We'll have more information on YouTube browser shortly.

Neuros Mention from Linus Torvalds Himself

It was flattering to see Neuros referenced by the man himself on mailing list discussion. Thanks Linus!

"See? If you are actually looking for a car to hack on, you'd buy a car
with that in mind. Do the exact same thing with your Tivo. Don't buy it if
you want to hack it: buy a Neuros OSD device instead! I'm serious: the
Neuros people do *not* limit you, and in fact they encourage hacking.
Instead of whining about Tivo, do something *positive*, and support Neuros
for their better policies!

Linus"
